Administering Bookmarks
You configure and administer Bookmarks using scripts accessed using wsadmin.sh. Changes to Bookmarks configuration settings require a restart of the Bookmarks server. Changes made using administrative commands take effect immediately.
There are two ways we can update the Bookmarks environment:
- Configuration settings: These settings control various configurable applications within Bookmarks. They require a server restart to take effect, and they all have the following form: DogearCellConfig.<command_name>(<arguments>) .
- Administrative commands: These commands control various aspects of the Bookmarks environment, and community users. They do not require a server restart to take effect, and they take the following form: <service_name>Service.<command_name, arguments>.
When you make configuration changes, you use scripts to check out the Bookmarks configuration file, make changes, and then check the file back in.
When using administrative commands to control the operation of a Bookmarks server, no file checkout is necessary and the changes take effect immediately.
- Run Bookmarks administrative commands
Run administrative commands from wsadmin line to directly interact with Bookmarks. We do not have to check out files or restart the server for changes to take effect.
- Access the Bookmarks configuration file
To make configuration changes to a Bookmarks deployment first access the Bookmarks configuration file.
- Filtering active content
The active content filter prevents a user from embedding malicious content in Bookmarks input fields. You configure Bookmarks settings using scripts accessed using wsadmin.sh. wsadmin.sh scripts use the AdminConfig object available in WebSphere Application Server Admin (wsadmin) to interact with the Bookmarks configuration file. Changes to Bookmarks configuration settings require node synchronization and a restart of the Bookmarks server.
- Change view and link thresholds for a Bookmarks deployment
- Configure favicons and changing the default favicon
Use these settings to configure favicons or replacing the default favicon for a Bookmarks deployment.
- Determine whether a site is an internet or intranet site
Establish a URL pattern in a Bookmarks configuration file to indicate whether a site is an internet or an intranet site.
- Manage links
As the Bookmarks administrator, we can remove broken or unwanted links, and configure what behavior is available to users for managing broken links.
- Restrict link redirects
We can restrict link redirects to allow users to directly access URLs. This is an optional configuration change.
- Specify a list of fonts and colors users can use for bookmark lists
To limit the allowable fonts users can use when embedding bookmarks in a web page to to a list we specify, create a white list. If a white list is enabled, only the fonts specified can be used to display a list of bookmarks in a web page.
- Manage multiple Bookmark buttons
If we are creating bookmarks on more than one server, you may have to rename the Bookmarks browser buttons to avoid conflicts.
