(ZOS) Use the administrative console to enable properties for specific SMF record types
Use the administrative console to view or set SMF record properties for specific types of SMF records.
Ensure that we have proper access to the administrative console.
To enable SMF, first use the administrative console to enable properties for specific record types.
Tasks
- Go to the Environment entries page of the administrative console.
Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers > server > Java and Process Management > Process definition > Environment entries.
- To enable SMF type 120 records, click New, and specify one or more of the following properties:
- name = server_SMF_server_activity_enabled = 1 (or server_SMF_server_activity_enabled = true)
- name = server_SMF_server_interval_enabled = 1 (or true)
- name = server_SMF_container_activity_enabled = 1 (or true)
- name = server_SMF_container_interval_enabled = 1 (or true)
- name = server_SMF_interval_length, value=n, where n is the interval, in seconds, the system will use to write records for a server instance. Set this value to 0 to use the default SMF recording interval.
- name = server_SMF_request_activity_enabled = 1 (or true)
- name = server_SMF_request_activity_CPU_detail = 0. To enable the property, set the value to 1.
- name = server_SMF_request_activity_timestamps = 0 To enable the property, set the value to 1.
- name = server_SMF_request_activity_security = 0 To enable the property, set the value to 1.
- name = server_SMF_request_activity_async = 0 To enable the property, set the value to 1.
- name = server_SMF_outbound_enabled = 1 (or true)
- Click OK or Apply.
- Save the changes and make sure a file synchronization is performed before restarting the servers.
- For the changes to take effect, restart the application server.
We have successfully activated SMF recording for the product when SMF type 120 records are being recorded.
