Enterprise applications (or Java EE applications) are applications that conform to the Java EE specification. The term Java EE includes Java EE 5 and J2EE specifications.
Enterprise applications can consist of the following:
- Zero or more EJB modules (packaged in JAR files)
- Zero or more web modules (packaged in WAR files)
- Zero or more connector modules (packaged in RAR files)
- Zero or more SIP modules (packaged in SAR files)
- Zero or more application client modules
- Additional JAR files containing dependent classes or other components required by the application
- Any combination previously described.
A Java EE application is represented by, and packaged in, an EAR file.
