Install IBM HTTP Server

(iseries) The IBM HTTP Server product is included in the media package when you order any of the WAS for IBM i products. It is not a required product. To install the product on a non-IBM i server, use the following instructions.

(dist) Install the IBM HTTP Server product and its plug-in, or install a plug-in for another supported web server to enable the web server to work with WebSphere Application Server.

To use a web server other than IHS, install and configure the web server before or after installing the WAS product, but before installing the Web Server Plug-ins for IBM WebSphere Application Server.

Refer to the information center for IBM HTTP Server for detailed information on installation steps, configuring the web server for SSL, the Fast Response Cache Accelerator, or Apache directives.


What to do next

After installing the web server and the application server, install and configure the appropriate web server plug-in for a supported, installed web server. No further configuration is required for most web servers.

(dist) The Web Server Plug-ins Configuration Tool configures supported web servers. We can also manually configure supported Web servers for WebSphere Application Server as described in Edit web server configuration files.

(iseries) We can manually configure supported Web servers for WebSphere Application Server as described in Edit web server configuration files.

The Global Security Kit (GSKit) installation image files for the WebSphere Web server plug-ins are packaged on the CD with the web server plug-in files. To use GSKIT, we can download the appropriate GSKIT file to the workstation on which the web server is running.
