Set up the test environment
To set up our test environment, we performed these tasks.
- Use the HMC GUI to set up LPARS by creating profiles for memory and CPU allocation.
- Use the HMC GUI to create virtual SCSI and network devices.
- Install and configure the VIO Server
- Mirror VIOS with backup/restore
- Create storage pools for the client root volume group (rootvg) and application volume group
- Create a shared Ethernet adapter on the VIOS
- Install and configure CSM on the management server
A sample CSM adapter definition file, p550q_lpar_adapters, is included in Appendix A, Sample files.
- Install NIM on the management server
- Create CSM/NIM resources
- Obtain the adapter Ethernet MAC address
- Configure CSM input and add the nodes
- Csm2nim nodes
- Allocate NIM resources and start bos_inst from the mksysb resource
- Perform basic operating system installation and configuration
- Install all required AIX filesets and GNU software
- Configure AIX in terms of deploying NFS remote mount, SSH and IOCP
- Preconfigure AIX in terms of creating the standard filesystem /usr/IBM on the logical volume...
WebSphere Application Server_LV- Perform basic TCP/IP tuning
- Perform basic AIX tuning...

- Create the mksysb for later installation of the other partitions
- Set up NFSv4 on Trinity using nfsroot and exname to share the /exports filesystem used to store the installation directory as well configuration files/scripts
- Monitor via perfagent.server installed on Brazos; client software is automatically installed
- Perform basic DB2 installation:
- Install DB2 on Brazos as the DB2 Server
- Install DB2 Client into the NFS remote mounted dir
- Create user db2rcl1 on all client systems and creating symbolic links
- Install WebSphere and Trade61
