Deleting an active edition
After multiple successive editions of an application are deployed and rolled out, which is not unusual in the life span of many production applications, you might have a number of editions stored in your repository that are no longer needed. You can delete an active edition without performing rollout to a new edition.
Before you begin
- You must have an installed, active edition.
- You must have a configurator or administrator administrative role.
About this task
An edition can exist in one of three states. Therefore, the method for deleting or uninstalling an edition varies slightly based on its current state.
- Inactive: This edition is neither assigned for use in any deployment target, nor the default. You can remove an inactive edition at any time.
- Active: This edition is currently assigned for use in one or more deployment targets. Use caution when you delete an active edition, especially if the edition is started. Stop the edition first, deactivate it, and you can then safely remove or uninstall the edition.
- Validate: This edition is currently assigned for use in the cloned deployment targets. Stop the edition, deactivate the edition, and you can then safely remove or uninstall the edition. Delete the cloned dynamic cluster that is created during validation.
Procedure
- Click Applications > Edition control center. Select the target application.
- Stop the application edition.
- Deactivate the active edition. Select the edition, and click Deactivate.
Instead of deactivating an active edition, you can replace it with a new edition. You can perform a rollout to a new edition, which makes the old edition inactive. Use rollout to ensure an interruption-free deactivation of the edition you want to delete.
- Uninstall the application. Click Applications > Enterprise applications or Applications > All Applications. For an enterprise application, select the edition to uninstall, click Uninstall. For a middleware application, select the edition, and click Remove. You are not required to restart the servers.
- Save and synchronize your changes.
Results
The edition is removed.
