Define e-mail notification

In addition to actively monitoring tasks with the Runtime Tasks panel, you can also have e-mail notifications sent to specified users when runtime tasks occur.

Before you begin

When security is enabled, some fields are not available without proper authorization. You must have configurator administrative privileges to define e-mail notification.

About this task

By defining e-mail notification, you can notify a set of e-mail addresses when runtime tasks are generated.

The sender user ID is preset to wasxd. You might need to register the sender user ID to in the SMTP registry before the cell can successfully send e-mail notifications.

Procedure

  1. Set the user ID from which the e-mails are sent. (Optional)

To change the user ID, install the appropriate fix pack for your WebSphere XD or WebSphere Virtual Enterprise release and your WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment release:

    WebSphere Extended Deployment
    WebSphere Virtual Enterprise
    WAS ND Required interim fixes
    v6.0.2.1 v6.0.2.x PK55085
    v6.0.2.1 v6.1.0.11 or v6.1.0.13 PK54881 and PK55085
    v6.0.2.1 v6.1.0.15 or later PK55085
    v6.1.0.0 v6.1.0.11 or 6.1.0.13 PK54881 and PK55085
    v6.1.0.0 v6.1.0.15 or later PK55085
    v6.1.0.1 v6.1.0.11 or 6.1.0.13 PK54881
v6.1.0.1 v6.1.0.15 or later No interim fix is required

By default, the value is preset to wasxd. To change this default...

    1. In the administrative console, click...

System administration | Cell | Custom properties | New

    2. Enter the name of the custom property as...

      task.email.global.sender.id

...and set the value to the specific e-mail user ID to use.

    3. Click Apply. The change becomes effective when you save the configuration.

  2. Configure e-mail notification in the administrative console.

    In the administrative console, click...

System administration | Task management | Notifications

Select Enable notifications to enable notifications. When runtime tasks are generated, an e-mail notification is sent to each of the e-mail addresses that you specify.

  3. Verify that e-mail is sent for a given task.

When all of the changes are made, click Test E-mail to verify that the e-mail is sent for a given task. If the e-mail server uses spam-blocking software, this test can fail and prevent the e-mail from displaying in the test inbox. To save your changes, click Apply or OK.

Results

When notification is enabled, an e-mail is sent to each of the specified addresses when a task is generated. When notification is enabled and no e-mail addresses are specified, no e-mails are sent.
