One way to customize the Portlet Palette is to add a portlet to a category. We can drag a portlet to a page once you add this portlet to the Portlet Palette. Perform the following steps:

  1. Click to open the Portlet Palette.

  2. Click the drop-down menu located by the category name.

  3. Click Add Portlet.

  4. Type part or all of the portlet name in the Search field.

  5. Click Search.

  6. Select the check boxes of the appropriate categories to add this portlet to these categories.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Click to close the Portlet Palette.

General tips for working with the Portlet Palette are as follows:

  • You should be logged in to the portal site using an ID with sufficient access rights to modify a page. Access control for customizing and working with the Portlet Palette is based on portlet roles, portlet modes, and page permissions. The portlets available to us are also filtered by any restricted portlet lists that exist for a page. Refer to Access control for the Portlet Palette and Modifying Portlet Palette settings for more detailed information.

  • The drag-and-drop feature is present for default portal themes in rows and containers that are not locked.

  • If you do not want to add a portlet to a category and want only to add it to a page, we can use the Search to locate and add the portlet to the page.

  • Entries in the Portlet Palette could become obsolete. For example, when an administrator deletes a portlet from the portal while a user is creating or editing pages, the user may not be aware of these updates. A user must log out and log back in to the portal to view the changes made by the administrator. If a user attempts to drag a portlet from the Portlet Palette when the portlet no longer exists, a message is recorded to the portal logs. Although this is a rare situation, administrators should not remove and add portlets during normal business hours.
