We can update the name for a folder and, if the administrator has configured the send a link feature, select other users to receive an e-mail link to the folder.

To edit the properties of a folder, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the folder that you want to edit.

  2. Click...

Folder Actions | Edit Folder Properties

...from the drop-down menu, or click the button...

    Edit Folder Properties

  3. We can change the folder name, which must be unique. Folder names can include non-Latin characters (such as Japanese and Cyrillic). However, some characters are invalid, such as...

    • asterisks (*)
    • question marks (?)
    • greater than and less than signs (< >)
    • percent signs (%)
    • apostrophes (')
    • double quotes (")
    • at signs (@)
    • forward and backward slashes (/ \)
    • pipes (|)
    • square brackets ([ ])
    • curly brackets ({ })
    • or colons (:)

    Folder names can contain spaces.

  4. Click Save to save the changes, or Cancel to exit and discard any changes you made.

We can rename folders that contain private or submitted drafts. However, if the Document Library administrator has locked the folder structure in a library, editing folders in the library is not allowed.
