Scenario for designing a workflow

A business analyst or an application designer familiar with a business problem can create a workflow as part of an application design. In the following scenario, a business analyst or application designer follows the steps outlined to create a workflow that captures some of the tasks that need to be completed when a new employee joins an organization.

  1. From the main menu, click...

    Templates | Template Library

    ...to view the Application Template Library.

  2. Create a new multi-page application template called...

    Manage New Hires

  3. Create the following two static pages:

    • On Boarding
    • Hiring Policies

  4. Choose...

    Edit Template Workflow

    ...from the Portlet Actions menu.

  5. Create a workflow for managing new hires and title it...

    Bring New Hires On Board

  6. Specify the component roles for the workflow:

    • Hiring Manager
    • Office Manager
    • Second Line Manager

  7. Specify the basic properties for the workflow.

  8. Specify the tasks for the workflow:

    • Add Employee to EIS
    • Purchase Equipment
    • Approve Large Purchase
    • Allocate Office Space

  9. Add an e-mail notification as an automated task as the last step to be executed before the workflow is completed.

  10. Click Save and Close to return to the Application Template Catalog.

  11. Choose...

    Edit Template Layout

    from the Portlet Actions menu to edit each of the newly created task pages to add any additional content needed to complete the application.

    You may also use the Wires portlet to set up connections between cooperative portlets on a page.
