Use elements to either store or generate web content. Elements do not exist as freestanding items within IWWCM . You store elements in sites, site areas, content items or components.

• Store text and HTML
  Use different types of elements to store text or HTML depending on the type of text or HTML being created.

• Create links
  Use these elements to define or generate links between different pages in a Web site.

• Store files and images
  Use these elements to store files or images.

• Reference external content
  Use these elements to reference content stored in other IBM WebSphere Portal applications, or stored outside of WebSphere Portal.

• Personalized content
  Use these elements to create or reference personalized content.

• Selection elements
  Use these elements to make selections from existing elements and data.

• Design elements
  Use these elements to enhance the design of presentation templates and other elements designs.

• Add elements to an item
  You add elements to sites, site areas, content items and authoring templates to store Web content specific to those items.

• Work with element designs
  Use element designs to define the design and layout of elements.
