Configure the Search All Places feature

Configure the Search All Places feature for the My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet to support three features of the portlet...

• My Pages
• Search this place
• Search my QuickPlaces

...that are not configured by default. This procedure is not required for the Inline QuickPlace portlet.

Configuring Search All Places requires configuring Domain Search and the Domain Indexer, configuring settings in the qpconfig.xml file, and testing Search All Places. Perform the following steps:

1. Configure Domain Search and Domain Indexer...

   1. On the IBM Lotus QuickPlace server, in the Notes client, open the Domino Directory (NAMES.NSF) database.

   2. Click...

      Configuration | Servers | All Server Documents view | Lotus QuickPlace server document | Server Tasks | Domain Catalog tab

   3. Select Enabled in the Domain Catalog field. This step starts the Catalog task and creates the Domain Catalog. You run the Catalog task to keep the Database Catalog up to date.

      You might do this on a schedule, for example, by including the task in the NOTES.INI setting, ServerTasksAthour. You do this by editing the NOTES.INI file to include the following statement, or modifying the statement to include the string Catalog if the statement already exists in the file.

          ServerTasksAt1=Catalog

   4. Click the Domain Indexer tab.

   5. Click Enabled in the Schedule field to enable the Domain Indexer task. Specify a schedule for running the Domain Indexer. For more information on setting up Lotus Domino Domain Search, use the Search button in Domino Administrator Help and browse topics on the Domain Catalog, Domain Search, and the Domain Index.

2. Configure Search Places settings in the qpconfig.xml file...

   1. Open the qpconfig.xml file in a text editor. The file is located in the Lotus Domino data directory.

   2. Scroll down to the Search Places section and remove the following lines from the beginning and end of Search Places section, respectively.

   3. Modify the Search Places tags for the environment. Fill in the port tag with the port number, and the hostname tag with the Internet address of the Lotus QuickPlace server, for example quickplace_server.acme_sales.com.

   4. Restart the Lotus Domino server.

3. Test the Search Places feature in the My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet...

   1. Sign in to a place you have created.

   2. Click Search.

      You should see three radio buttons: Search All Places, Search This Place, and Folder.

   3. Click the Search All Places radio button and search for something you know will return results. For example, search forWelcome
