Automated notification

This topic describes how to add the "Automated notification" feature to an alert definition to arrange for alerts to be sent to users automatically.

Alert definitions can be configured to support automatic notification to alert subscribers. The schedule for notification is specified in the Features section of the alert definition. Notifications can be scheduled to happen every minute, hour, day, week, or month. Once scheduled, notifications are dispatched automatically for all alerts that are active when the scheduled time expires.

Keep in mind that alert definitions include an expiration frequency. This frequency should be set to a value close to the sampling frequency of the data used to generate alerts. In most cases, the schedule should be set to the same frequency, if possible. The allowable values for this field and the alert Expiration field are not exactly the same, so choose the closest value.

For this feature to work, a notifier definition must be created and configured in the project. Alert subscribers can choose any of the configured notification mechanisms by making choices and supplying details in the My Alerts portlet. Parent topic: Features of alert definitions
