WebSphere Application Server, V6.0 and the WebSphere MQ resource adapter

WebSphere Application Server, V6.0 contains a version of WebSphere MQ Java that provides all the function of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter. A WebSphere MQ JMS application running in WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.0 does not therefore need the WebSphere MQ resource adapter in order to access the resources of a WebSphere MQ queue manager.

However, if you do use the WebSphere MQ resource adapter instead, set the WebSphere Application Server environment variable MQ_INSTALL_ROOT to the fully qualified path name of the directory where you installed WebSphere MQ. An application running in WebSphere Application Server then uses the version of WebSphere MQ JMS that is supplied with WebSphere MQ and is compatible with the WebSphere MQ resource adapter. For example, on HP-UX, Linux, or Solaris, the value of MQ_INSTALL_ROOT must be /opt/mqm instead of the default value ${WAS_LIBS_DIR}/WMQ.
