Building a keyword string

This chapter describes a systematic way of selecting keywords to describe a failure in WebSphere MQ for z/OS. Keywords are predefined words or abbreviations that identify aspects of a program failure.

To determine which WebSphere MQ for z/OS keywords to use and the procedures for selecting them, refer to the flowchart in Figure 16.

To begin selecting your keywords:

  1. Follow the procedures in Component-identifier keyword and Release-level keyword. Do this for all failures.

  2. Follow one of the type-of-failure keyword procedures.

  3. Identify the area of the failure using CSECT and modifier keywords when appropriate. The procedures in this section refer you to these steps as needed.

  4. Follow Searching the IBM database to learn how to search the database with your set of keywords. Do this for all failures.

  5. If the search is unsuccessful, turn to Resolving a problem. This helps IBM product support personnel determine whether an APAR should be submitted.
