Additional file sets that might be required

An installation of WebSphere Portal requires the following filesets which may not be installed by your AIX distribution:

  • xIC.aix50.rte 5.0.2.x
  • 5.0.3 + APAR IY36884

Filesets can be downloaded from http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/fixes.

The following AIX file sets are required to install or run DB2 in languages other than English:

  • X11.fnt.ucs.ttf (AIX Windows Unicode True Type Fonts)
  • XlC.rte 5.0.2.x

For Asian languages, the following file sets are also required:

  • X11.fnt.ucs.ttf_CN (for zh_CN or Zh_CN)
  • X11.fnt.ucs.ttf_KR (for ko_KR)
  • X11.fnt.ucs.ttf_TW (for zh_TW or Zh_TW)

You can download file sets from http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/fixes.

Additional AIX Program Temporary Fixes

Some components of WebSphere Portal require additional AIX Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs) that do not get installed automatically with AIX 5. The following PTFs can be obtained from IBM if they are not already on your AIX system. To upgrade, use the FixDist tool, available from...

http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/rs6000/support.

The following PTFs are needed:

  • X11.adt
  • X11.compat
  • bos.adt

Note: The file bos.adt is required for IBM Directory Server installation.

9090 Port conflict on AIX machines

There is a port number conflict between the WAS Administrative Console and WebSM service on AIX. Both use port 9090. WebSM is a tool that is useful to administrators who manage many AIX machines. WAS Administrative Console is used to administer WAS. The port 9090 conflict on AIX is a known WAS issue. Ensure that no other applications are using this port.

To modify the port number that is used by WAS Administrative Console, perform the following steps:

  1. Disable WebSM Service by issuing the following command:

    # /usr/websm/bin/wsmserver -disable

Failure to complete this step before installing WebSphere Portal results in an incomplete deployment of portlets.

  2. Install WebSphere Portal, including WAS.

  3. Modify the WAS Administrative Console port number 9090 in the following files to the desired port for the administrative console. Refer to WAS documentation for more information.

    • $WAS_HOME/config/cells/<cell_name>/nodes/<node_name>/servers/server1/server.xml

    • $WAS_HOME/config/cells/<cell_name>/virtualhosts.xml

  4. Restart the WAS and WebSphere Portal servers.

  5. Enable WebSM Service by issuing the following command:
    # /usr/websm/bin/wsmserver -enable
