Set up Domino Web Access on the Lotus Team Workplace server

Overview

The Domino Web Access (iNotes) portlet integrates Lotus Instant Messaging so that users can send and receive instant messages, maintain an instant contacts list, and have the names of people in mail messages, views and folders be online-aware.

In Domino Web Access, the Lotus Instant Messaging integration features rely on the ability of the browser to communicate directly with the Lotus Instant Messaging server. This means that the fully-qualified Internet hostname of the Lotus Instant Messaging server must be resolvable from the browser (for example, the fully qualified Internet hostname for a Domino server named IM/Acme might be im.acme.com). Therefore, either DNS must be able to resolve this address, or it must be resolved to the proper IP address by some other mechanism (such as by editing the local operating system's hosts file).

Note: The single-sign on configuration you complete for Domino on the Lotus Team Workplace server handles authentication in Domino Web Access.

Perform the procedures in the following sections to enable awareness and chat in the instances of the Domino Web Access portlet that are automatically deployed on the Collaboration Center pages, as well as any other instances of the portlet you choose to deploy manually.

Set up Domino Web Access on the Lotus Team Workplace server

  1. In the Domino Administrator client, verify the Fully Qualified Domain name (FQDN) (for example, acme.sales.com) for Domino on the Lotus Team Workplace server is specified on the Basics tab of the Server document.
  2. Register users with the Domino Web Access (iNOTES6.NTF) mail template.
  3. Add the following setting to the NOTES.INI file:
    INotes_WA_SametimeServer=hostname

    where hostname is the fully qualified domain name of the Lotus Instant Messaging server.

Copying files between the Lotus Instant Messaging server and the Domino server

Use the following steps to copy the files needed to provide awareness in Domino Web Access to the Domino server so that the browser will be able to access them.

  1. If there is no Sametime folder under the Domino server directory on the Lotus Team Workplace server, create one in this location:
    yourDominoServerDataDirectory\domino\html\Sametime\stlinks\

  2. Copy the contents of the Lotus Instant Messaging server stlinks folder to the stlinks folder you just created, using the operating system.

    Tip You could also, on the Lotus Instant Messaging server, zip the \domino data directory\domino\html\sametime\stlinks\ directory. Include all the files under the stlinks directory on the Lotus Instant Messaging server. Copy the zip file to the Domino server and unzip it to the same directory on the Domino server.

  3. (Mozilla only) If the stlinks.jar file in the stlinks directory is not a signed version, replace it with a signed stlinks.jar file. In Lotus Instant Messaging 6.5.1 this file is on the Lotus Instant Messaging server in the folder yourInstantMessagingServerDataDirectory\domino\html\sametime\stlinks\signed.

Verifying that Lotus Instant Messaging works with Domino Web Access

  1. Restart the Lotus Team Workplace server.
  2. Follow the instructions in the Sametime Installation Guide for logging into the Lotus Instant Messaging server using the Lotus Instant Messaging Connect Client. Lotus Instant Messaging must be functioning properly before you can test whether it is working with Domino Web Access clients.
  3. Open the Domino Web Access portlet in a browser and log in.
  4. Select Preferences --> Other, and then select Enable Instant messaging.
  5. Click Chat to test the Lotus Instant Messaging connection.

    Note If the chat link does not appear in Domino Web Access, check that

    INotes_WA_SametimeServer=hostname

    has been added to the NOTES.INI file, making sure that hostname is the fully qualified domain name of the Lotus Instant Messaging server. In addition, check that the Enabling instant messaging preference is selected.

For a list of NOTES.INI settings you can use to modify the default Lotus Instant Messaging setup for Domino Web Access, see Lotus Domino Administrator 6.5.1 Help.
