WCM - Reference Components in Presentation Templates
Overview
The WCM application creates a web page by using different Components stored in separate WCM Items or the Component Library. Components can be referenced from the Component Library, Content and Site Areas. The content of the Components may change depending on how they are being referenced.
Component Description Content The content of Content can change depending on the current Content item, or can display the content from a specific Content item. Site Area The content of Site Area Components will change depending on the current Site or Site Area, or can display content from a specific Site or Site Area. Dynamic Library Though the format of Menus and Navigators will remain the same, the content in Menus and Navigators will change depending on their properties and the current Content and/or Site Area. Static Library Static Library Components, such as Text and Image Components that are referenced directly inside a Presentation Template will always appear the same on a Presentation Template no matter what the current Content or Site Area is.
Labeling Components in Site Areas and Content
The names of Component labels in Content or Site Areas must be the same if a Component reference is to change depending on what the current Content or Site Area is. The Component types do not have to be consistent.
Example:
For a Component Reference called Heading from Current Site Area:
Site Area Component Label Component Type Business Heading Image Personal Heading Rich Text Features Heading Text News Heading Text
