Overview

The Personalization Component is used to reference content based on WebSphere Portal Personalization rules and display the content as Web Content Management Components.

To use the Personalization Component, Personalization must first be setup in WebSphere Portal. The WebSphere Portal Personalization component selects content for users, based on information in their profiles and on business logic. Web Content Management cannot be used to edit Portal Personalization settings.

Maximum Items Displayed

A maximum of 100 items can be displayed in a single Personalization Component.

Recreating Personalization Rules and Content Spots

If you delete a Personalization Rule or Content Spot that has been referenced in a Personalization Component and then create a new Personalization Rule or Content Spot with the same name, it will no longer be displayed in the Personalization Component. Edit the Personalization Component and reselect the Personalization Rule or Content Spot.

Enable non-admin users to return content from a Personalization Component

To allow non-admin users to return content from a Personalization Component, allow the users to access the Virtual Resource, ICM_CONTENT_REPOSITORY.

  1. Login to WebSphere Portal as the Portal Administrator.

  2. Navigate to...

    Administration | Access | Resource Permissions | Virtual Resources | ICM_CONTENT_REPOSITORY

  3. Add any required Users to the User Role and allow inheritance of the Role permission. To enable all Users, add the "All Authenticated Portal Users" group.

Troubleshoot: Disabling the Personalization Cache

In some situations, the Personalization cache for the Web Content Management resource may need to be disabled:

  1. Edit the file PersonalizationService.properties located under the PortalServer/shared/app/config/services/ folder.

  2. Add the parameter...

    rulesEngine.cache.enabled.<Resource name>=false.

    • Example 1: The resource is named WCM Resource and resides in the root folder. Add the parameter

      rulesEngine.cache.enabled./WCM Resource=false.

    • Example 2: The resource is named WCM Resource and resides in a folder called collections. Add the parameter

      rulesEngine.cache.enabled./collections/WCM Resource=false

  3. Restart the WebSphere Portal server.
