Working in the Design and Split pages

The Design and Split page of Page Designer is the WYSIWYG mode for editing HTML and JSP files. As you edit in the Design or Split page, your work generally reflects the layout and style of the Web pages that you build without the added complexity of source tagging syntax, navigation, and debugging.

The Design and Split pages provide full access to Page Designer menu options, context menu actions, view-specific GUI options (such as those in the Styles view), and drag-and-drop behavior. Note that dynamic data will not be displayed correctly in the Design page; run it on a server using the

Run | Run on Server option from the page's pop-up menu in the Enterprise Explorer or

Page | Run on Server from the main menu.

The Design and Split pages also provide support for absolute positioning, free layout mode, and frames. You can see the immediate impact of design decisions more quickly than you would using a text editor. You can change the composition and attributes of pages, tags, images, and effects efficiently and precisely.

The Split page allows you to view both the Source page and either the Design page or the Preview page. You can split the editor horizontally or vertically.

Many actions available through the Page Designer menus are also available from design element pop-up menus, which you access by selecting a page object and right-clicking.

Note: You can configure how certain objects, for example comment and script symbols, are displayed in the Design page by selecting

Window | Preferences | Web | Page Design | Appearance
