Install IBM MQ Version 9.0 using the launchpad
Use the installation launchpad and wizards to install IBM MQ Version 9.0 on the same Windows computer as the one on which Version 8.0 was installed.
Before you begin
Before starting this task, ensure that we have obtained a copy of the installation media:- If you are installing using Electronic Software Download, download and unpackage the compressed file containing the installation image into a temporary directory.
- If you are installing using a DVD, obtain a copy of the IBM MQ for Windows Server DVD.
This task assumes that we have previously uninstalled the earlier version of IBM MQ from which you are migrating as described in Uninstalling Version 8.0. If you install IBM MQ Version 9.0 without first uninstalling the earlier version, some of the options and messages that you see during the installation process will be different from those described in this task.
Before starting this task, complete the following checks:- You must have local administrator authority when you are installing. Define this authority through the Windows facilities.
- Ensure that the machine name does not contain any spaces.
- Ensure that we have sufficient disk space, 1005 MB, to fully install IBM MQ for Windows.
Before installing IBM MQ, check that your system meets the hardware and software requirements. For the latest details of hardware and software requirements, see System Requirements for IBM MQ.
About this task
This task describes the basic steps for installing IBM MQ Version 9.0 on a Windows operating system when migrating from IBM MQ Version 8.0.
After uninstalling IBM MQ Version 8.0, the Version 9.0 is installed using the same installation name but using the Version 9.0 default program binary files location C:\Program Files\IBM\MQ. The default program binary files location in IBM MQ Version 8.0 is C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ.
Because the default data files location C:\ProgramData\IBM\MQ is same in IBM MQ Version 8.0 and Version 9.0, any existing data and queue managers are picked up by the new installation.
The installation programs contain links to further information if you require it during the installation process. The installation process has the following parts:- Use the Launchpad to check and install software requirements, specify network information, and start the IBM MQ installation wizard.
- Use the IBM MQ installation wizard to install the software, and start the Prepare IBM MQ wizard.
- Use the Prepare IBM MQ wizard to start the IBM MQ service.
