Using the workbench to collect data

Use the IBM Support Assistant (ISA) workbench to collect data reported by Lotus Connections.

Review the Troubleshooting checklist to determine if the problem has already been encountered by someone else and whether there is a resolution or workaround available.

You must know which servers host which features as well as the administrative user name and password for each of the WebSphere Application Servers upon which the Lotus Connections features are installed. If you do not know this information, find it out before running the tool.

To use the workbench to collect data to be sent to IBM Support...

  1. In a network deployment, the scripting host and port values in the wsadmin.properties file are set to the values of the dmgr's host and SOAP port. However, when the IBM Support Assistant is executed on a node in a network deployment, it expects the values for the host and SOAP port to reflect those of the current node, not the dmgr. Resolve this issue by completing the following steps:

    1. Determine the port number of the current node. From the WAS admin console, expand Servers, and then select Application servers. Click the name of the current server from the list, and then click Ports. Make a note of the value in the SOAP connector address field.

    2. Make a backup copy of the wsadmin.properties file and name it wsadmin.properties.ORIGINAL. The wsadmin.properties file is stored in the following directory:

      <AppServer_root>/profiles/profile_name/properties

    3. Open the wsadmin.properties file in a text editor, and then find the com.ibm.ws.scripting.port and com.ibm.ws.scripting.host properties.

    4. Edit the values of both properties, replacing the current value with the correct SOAP port and host name for the current server. You can specify the host name using an abbreviated version of the name (your_server) or the full server name (your_server.company.com). For example:

        com.ibm.ws.scripting.port=8878 com.ibm.ws.scripting.host=example.com

    5. Save and close the wsadmin.properties file.

  2. Start the IBM Support Assistant workbench.

  3. From the welcome page, click the Analyze Problem icon.

  4. Click the Collect Data tab. Expand Lotus Connections 2.5 in the Select a product list. Choose one or more of the following components:

    • Lotus Connections Activities Collection

    • Lotus Connections Authentication Collection

    • Lotus Connections Blog Collection

    • Lotus Connections Bookmarks Collection

    • Lotus Connections Communities Collection

    • Lotus Connections DB2 Collection

    • Lotus Connections Files Collection

    • Lotus Connections Homepage Collection

    • Lotus Connections IBM HTTP Server Collection

    • Lotus Connections Install Collection

    • Lotus Connections Mobile Collection

    • Lotus Connections News Collection

    • Lotus Connections Profiles Collection

    • Lotus Connections Wikis Collection

  5. Click Add to add the collectors to the Collector Queue, and then click Collect All to start collecting files.

You might be asked for information during the data collection process. For example, you may be asked for the name of the WebSphere Application Server that hosts a feature or for the administrative user ID and password of the server. Provide the information requested. The data collector informs you when the processing is completed.

  6. Provide the collection of data to IBM Support. As you use the collector wizard, it gives you the option of sending the collected data to IBM Support over FTP. You can choose to send the data to IBM that way or provide it separately.

  7. Rename the wsadmin.properties file that you edited in Step 1 to wsadmin.properties.ISA so you can use it again the next time you use the IBM Support Assistant to collect data from the current server. Rename wsadmin.properties.ORIGINAL to wsadmin.properties.
