Repository preferences
Overview
A repository is a location that stores data for installing, modifying, rolling back, updating, or uninstalling packages.
Before installing, modifying, or updating packages, obtain the installation repository location from your administrator or IBM.
Use console mode to add, remove, open, move, or close repositories.
A selected option is indicated by [X]. An option that is not selected is indicated by [ ]. At the command prompt, default commands are indicated by [ ]. You can click Enter to accept the default entry or enter a different command. For example, [N] indicates that the default command is N: Next.
Set a repository preference
- Start IBM Installation Manager in console mode: imcl -c.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- Add a repository .
- Search service repositories .
- Remove a repository .
- Open a repository .
- Close a repository .
- Move up a repository .
- Move down a repository .
- Delete saved credentials .
- Test Connection: This feature is not available.
Add a repository
To add a repository:
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter D: Add repository.
- Enter a repository location: C:\installation_files\repository.config. If you add a repository that requires credentials, you are prompted to provide the required credentials.
When entering credentials, the password is not masked. When you enter your password, you can see the text of the password.
If you share the same instance of Installation Manager with other users, see Save credentials when sharing the same instance of Installation Manager before saving your password.
In Installation Manager version 1.4.3, you are not prompted to enter credentials when adding a repository to the preferences. You save credentials when you install a package.
Use the correct case when entering the repository location. If the correct case is not used, the package is not shown in the list of available packages for installation.
- Enter P: Provide credentials and connect.
- Enter user_name and press Enter.
- Enter password and press Enter.
- 1: [ ] Save password if valid. To save the password, enter 1.
- Enter O: Ok.
If you are installing a package that requires multiple disks, extract each product package into its own common root directory. For example, if productA is comprised of six disks (disk1.zip through disk6.zip) extract all six disks into the same common directory: C:\productA. For product B, the product is comprised of two disks (disk1.zip and disk2.zip). Extract both disks into the same common directory: C:\productB. By using this directory structure, you do not receive a prompt for the next disk during the installation.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Search service repositories
To enable the search service repositories option:
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter S: Search service repositories during installation and updates. For information about service repositories, see Searching service repositories .
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Remove a repository
To remove a repository location:
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter 1: repository_location. Select the number to the left of the repository. You must have a repository listed before you can remove a repository. This example removes the first repository listed. You might have more than one repository listed.
- Enter 2: Remove repository.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Open a repository
Installation Manager searches open repositories when checking for available packages but does not search closed repositories.
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter 1: repository_location. Select the number to the left of the repository. You must have a closed repository listed before you can open a repository. An open repository is indicated with [X] and a closed repository is indicated with [ ]. This example opens the first repository listed. You might have more than one repository listed.
- Enter 1: Open repository.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Close a repository
Installation Manager does not search closed repositories but does search open repositories.
To close a repository...
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter 1: repository_location. Select the number to the left of the repository. You must have an open repository listed before you can close a repository. An open repository is indicated with [X] and a closed repository is indicated with [ ]. This example closes the first repository listed. You might have more than one repository listed.
- Enter 1: Close repository.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Move up a repository
Installation Manager uses repositories from the top of the list. If two repositories contain the same package, the repository listed higher in the list is used. For example, you have a package available in two repositories. Repository A is accessible using a slow internet connection. Repository B is available on the local network. Move Repository B to a position above Repository A.
To move up a repository...
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter 1: repository_location. Select the number to the left of the last repository that is listed. This example moves up the last repository listed. You must have more than one repository listed to see the Move up option.
- Enter 4: Move up.
If you select a repository that is neither the first or the last repository, you see the options: 4: Move up and 5: Move down.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Move down a repository
Installation Manager uses repositories from the top of the list. If two repositories contain the same package, the repository listed higher in the list is used. Move Repository A to a position below Repository B.
To close a repository...
- Enter P: Preferences.

- Enter 4: Move down.
If you select a repository that is neither the first or the last repository, you see the options: 4: Move up and 5: Move down.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
Delete saved credentials
The Clear Credentials option shows when you have saved credentials. If you do not have saved credentials, you do not see this option.To delete credentials:
- Enter P: Preferences.
- Enter 1: Repositories.
- Enter C: Clear Credentials. This option shows when you have saved credentials. If you do not have saved credentials, you do not see this option.
- Enter Y: Yes. The credentials are deleted.
- Enter A: Apply Changes and Return to Preferences Menu.
- Enter C: Cancel to exit preferences.
