Install Packaging Utility using console mode


Overview

The Packaging Utility download includes installation files for Installation Manager.

A selected option is indicated by [X]. An option that is not selected is indicated by [ ]. At the command prompt, default commands are indicated by [ ]. You can click Enter to accept the default entry or enter a different command. For example, [N] indicates that the default command is N: Next.


Install in console mode

  1. Download Packaging Utility installation files, see: Installation Manager downloads .

  2. Extract the installation files.

  3. cd InstallerImage_platform. For example:

      /opt/InstallationFiles/IBM/PackagingUtility/disk_platform/InstallerImage_platform

  4. Run one of the following commands:

      Administrator Nonadministrator
    Windows installc.exe -c userinstc.exe -c
    Linux and UNIX ./install -c ./userinst -c

  5. Enter N: Next. Packaging Utility is selected for installation by default. Installation Manager is selected for installation if Installation Manager has not been installed.

    You cannot deselect Installation Manager for installation. Optional:

    1. To view all available versions for Packaging Utility, enter the number to the left of IBM Packaging Utility version.
    2. Enter 2: Show all available versions of the package.
    3. To change the version to install, enter the number to the left of the version.
    4. Enter O: Ok.

  6. For the Licenses screen, the following options are available:

    • 1: IBM Packaging Utility - License Agreement. To view a license agreement, enter the number to the left of the product name.
    • A: [ ] I accept the terms in the license agreement. .
    • D: [ ] I do not accept the terms in the license agreement. If you decline the license agreement, the installation is stopped. To continue the installation, you must accept the license agreement.

    1. Enter A to accept the license agreement.
    2. Enter N: Next.

  7. To enter a different value for the Shared Resources Directory, enter M: Change Shared Resources Directory.

    You can specify the shared resources directory only the first time that you install a package. Select the drive with enough available space to ensure adequate space for the shared resources of future packages. You cannot change the location of the shared resources directory unless you uninstall all packages. If you are installing Installation Manager at the same time, you can change the installation location for Installation Manager.

    To accept the default value for Shared Resources Directory or to continue after entering a different value, enter N: Next.

  8. To enter a different value for the package group location, enter M: Change location.

    To accept the default value for the package group location or to continue after entering a different value, enter N: Next.

  9. Enter the number to the left of the language to add or remove the language from the list of languages that will be installed.

    You can select only one language at a time. English is selected by default. You cannot clear the selection for the English language.

    Enter N: Next.

  10. Enter N: Next. Packaging Utility does not have features that you can choose to install. For IBM products that do have features, you see a list of available features for installation.

  11. On the Summary screen, review your selections before installing the package.

    G: Generate installation response file. Enter the name of the response file and use .xml as the file extension. Response files are XML files. You can include a directory location when entering the response file name to save the file to a different location.

    Enter I: Install.

  12. When the installation completes, enter F: Finish.
