License key types

The Manage Licenses wizard shows the license key type in the License Type column. Some of the license key types are defined here.

Floating

The floating license key type is shown for packages that have common licensing enabled. The package components are enabled when the package obtains access to floating license keys from license server.

Not enforced

The Not enforced key type is shown for packages that do not require that a license key be installed to run.

Permanent

The permanent license key type shows for packages that are upgraded with a product activation kit that contains a permanent license key and license agreement. The license key does not expire and an authorized user can use the product on the installed workstation indefinitely.

Trial

The trial license key type is shown for packages with a trial license key. Some products come with a trial license key. When you install a product, a trial license key is installed that enables you to use the product for 30 or 60 days. During the trial period, the product is fully functional.

When 15 days remain in the trial period, you receive a warning that the trial product license will expire soon. The product does not function after the expiration date.

Token

The token-based license model means that you can buy a certain number of token licenses. If you use an IBM Rational tool that checks out a FEATURE that is token based, the FEATURE line in the license file specifies the number of tokens that are checked out. Token-based licenses can be used only with floating licenses. They cannot be used for authorized user license.

Token licensing is available only for IBM Rational products.

For more details about token licensing, contact your local IBM marketing representative.
