Considerations for using imcl from the installer
You can use imcl commands with either the installed version of Installation Manager or the installer. However, issues can occur when you use imcl from the installer. The issues are due to the compatibility among different versions of Installation Manager. A version of Installation Manager is compatible with earlier releases of Installation Manager. The same version of Installation Manager is not compatible with later releases.
You cannot use imcl from the installer if Installation Manager is installed.
The following examples assume that you are using imcl from the installer and Installation Manager is not installed.
- Example 1
Product A includes Installation Manager v1.4.2. Product B includes Installation Manager v1.4.1. You install Product A using imcl v1.4.2. The installation of Product B using imcl v1.4.1 fails. V1.4.1 of imcl is not compatible with the later version of imcl used by Product A. You must use imcl v1.4.2 to install Product B.
- Example 2
You install Product B using Installation Manager v1.4.1. Next, you install Product A using Installation Manager v1.4.2. You cannot uninstall Product B using imcl from v1.4.1. You must use imcl from v1.4.2.
