Internet preferences

Proxy servers enable connections to remote servers from behind a firewall.

You can set preferences for proxy servers in IBM Installation Manager or in a response file.   After the proxy server is enabled, the proxy server is used for all server communications.

For information about authentication schemes, see Supported authentication schemes .

SSL/TLS

In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Internet. Select Nonsecure SSL Mode to accept a certificate when an SSL connection is made.

Accepted certificates might include invalid or untrusted certificates. Use nonsecure SSL mode only if you trust all the servers that Installation Manager accesses. When nonsecure SSL mode is selected, the Session option is checked by default. When the Session option is checked, nonsecure SSL mode is enabled only for this session of Installation Manager. The next time Installation Manager is started, nonsecure SSL mode is not enabled. When the Permanent option is checked, nonsecure SSL mode remains enabled the next time you start Installation Manager.

FTP Proxy

In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Internet > FTP Proxy. Select this option to specify a SOCKS proxy host address and a SOCKS proxy port number. The SOCKS proxy port value must be 0 - 65535. FTP proxy is an application-level gateway for FTP. The FTP proxy functions between a client and a server, forwarding command, and data streams. An FTP proxy also can fix connections to the FTP server and helps provide proxy authentication.

Both the SOCKS proxy host field and the SOCKS proxy port field require a value. When the SOCKS proxy host field is empty, you see the message Invalid Host. When the SOCKS proxy port field is empty, you see the message Port range is [0,65535]. Enter the value 0 when you do not want to specify a port number.

HTTP Proxy

In Installation Manager, click...

Use this option to enable an HTTP or SOCKS proxy.

You might see the message Invalid Host after checking the Enable proxy server option. The message shows when the Proxy host field or the SOCKS proxy host field is empty. Enter information into the field. The Proxy port field or the SOCKS proxy port field must have a value. When you delete the value from the Proxy port field or the SOCKS proxy port field, the message Port range is [0,65535] shows. Enter the value 0 when you do not want to specify a port number.

The proxy server preferences also can be set in a response file. For information about silent installation preferences, see Silent installation preference commands .
