Roll back updated packages using wizard mode
Use the rollback feature to remove an update to a package and revert to a previous version.
- During the rollback process, Installation Manager must access files from the earlier version of the package. By default, these files are stored on our computer when we install a package.
If we change the default setting or delete the files using the Remove Saved Files option, Installation Manager requires access to your installation repository or media. To access the Remove Saved Files option, click File > Preferences > Files for Rollback. On the OS X, the Preferences option is under the IBM Installation Manager menu.
If we installed the product from a repository, we must list the repository that we used to install the previous version of the product in your preferences. To check the repositories that are listed, click File > Preferences > Repositories.
If we installed the product from disks or other media, the media must be available when we use the rollback feature.
Use the rollback feature to remove an update that you applied to a product package.
Consider these examples:
- When you roll back a package, Installation Manager uninstalls the updated resources and reinstalls the resources from the previous version. We can roll back only one version level at a time.
- When you roll back to an earlier version of a package, the package is restored with the same features that are associated with that version. Use the Modify wizard to add and remove features.
- For installed fixes, a fix is uninstalled if the fix does not apply to the version of the product that you rolled back to. A fix is not uninstalled if you roll back to a version of the product that the fix applies to.
- The rollback does not reinstall the fix that was uninstalled during the fix pack installation.
We cannot roll back Installation Manager to an earlier version.
- We installed Fix Pack 1 and Fix Pack 2. You also installed Interim Fix 2, which is applicable to both Fix Pack 1 and Fix Pack 2.
If we roll back Fix Pack 2, we have Fix Pack 1 and Interim Fix 2 installed.
- We installed Fix Pack 1 and Interim Fix 1, which applies only to Fix Pack 1. You also installed Fix Pack 2.
If we roll back Fix Pack 2, we have Fix Pack 1 with no fixes installed.
Procedure
To roll back an updated package:
- In Installation Manager, click Roll Back to start the Roll Back wizard.
- From the Package Group Name list, select the package group that contains the packages that we want to roll back. Click Next.
- Select the version of the package that we want to roll back to and click Next. Some packages require entitlement for updates or fixes.
If we did not save files for rollback and we are rolling back to a version that requires entitlement, we must be entitled to the previous version for the rollback to finish. Entitlement is based on your IBM ID credentials.
- Read the summary information and click Roll Back to roll back the package.
On Windows, Installation Manager checks for running processes. If processes are blocking the rollback process, the Blocking Processes section includes a list of these processes. We must click Stop All Blocking Processes before you continue the rollback process. The processes must be stopped because these running processes lock files that Installation Manager must access or modify. If there are no processes that must be stopped, a list is not shown.
