Roll back packages using console mode (imcl -c)
We can roll back a package in console mode. A package can be a product, a group of components, or a single component that is designed for console mode to update. During the rollback process, Installation Manager must access files from the earlier version of the package. By default, these files are stored on our computer when we install a package. If we change the default setting or delete the files using the Remove Saved Files option, Installation Manager requires access to your installation repository or media. For the Remove Saved Files option, enter P: Preferences and then enter 3: Files for Rollback. If we installed the product from a repository, we must list that repository in your preferences. To check the repositories that are listed, enter P: Preferences then enter 1: Repositories. If we installed the product from disks or other media, the media must be available when using the rollback feature.
If we did not save files for rollback and you roll back to a version that requires entitlement, we must be entitled to the previous version for the rollback to finish. Entitlement is based on your IBM ID credentials. For information about entitlement, see IBM Entitlement Help.
Use the rollback feature to remove an update that you applied to a product package. When you roll back a package, Installation Manager uninstalls the updated resources, and reinstalls the resources from the previous version. We can roll back only one version level at a time.
When you roll back to an earlier version of a package, the package is restored with the same features that are associated with that version. We can add and remove features by modifying the package.
For installed fixes, a fix is uninstalled if the fix does not apply to the version of the product that you rolled back to. A fix is not uninstalled if you roll back to a version of the product that the fix applies to.
You cannot roll back Installation Manager to an earlier version.
To create a response file, step through the rollback process. Enter G: Generate a rollback response file option before rolling back the package.
A selected option is indicated by an X in brackets: [X]. Options that are not selected are indicated by empty brackets: [ ]. We can press Enter to select the default entry or select a different command. For example, [N] indicates that the default selection is N for the Next command.
