Inbound events from Enterprise Content Management systems
In IBM BPM, you can create event subscriptions and design business processes and services that detect and respond to inbound content events from Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems. The content events are used to catch and throw interactions with an ECM system. Business processes can instantiate, continue, or end based on the type of content event, such as the creation, modification, or deletion of a document.
To successfully receive and manage data from inbound content events that originate on Enterprise Content Management (ECM) servers, you need to understand the runtime behavior of the events and you need to perform both modeling and administration tasks, such as creating the components that are required to handle, detect, and respond to the events. Information about the runtime behavior of content events and the required modeling and administrative tasks is found in the following topics:
- Runtime behavior for inbound content events
To work with inbound content events, you should understand the two key concepts of runtime behavior: the event source ID and the filtering and processing of event subscriptions.- Performing modeling tasks for inbound events
To receive information about inbound content events that originate from changes to documents or folders on Enterprise Content Management (ECM) servers, you need to use Process Designer to perform the modeling tasks of creating and configuring components that can detect and respond to the content events.- Performing administrative tasks for inbound events
To receive information about inbound document and folder events that originate on Enterprise Content Management (ECM) servers, you need to perform the administrative tasks of developing and installing an event handler on your ECM system. The event handler notifies the IBM BPM system about ECM events by calling the appropriate APIs.
