Create a participant group

To create a participant group and add users to that group, follow the steps in this procedure.

Participant groups represent the groups of users in your enterprise.

Procedure

  1. In the Designer view, click the plus sign next to Processes and select Participant Group from the list of components.
  2. In the New Participant Group window, enter a name for the group and click Finish.
  3. IBM BPM Designer displays the properties for the participant group. Supply requested information, including:

Input required for the participant group properties
Window area Field or link Description
Common Name This field displays the name you provided in step 2.
Documentation Optionally provide a description of the group in this field.
Simulation Properties Capacity Choose either Use Provider Users or Use Estimated Capacity. If you select Use Provider Users, the capacity is determined by the number of users in the group. If you choose to estimate, provide the maximum number of users that this group can include.
Availability For simulation purposes, specify the percentage of working hours that are available to complete IBM BPM tasks for this group.
Efficiency For simulation purposes, specify the efficiency percentage of this group.
Cost per Hour For simulation purposes, provide the cost (in dollars and cents) to your organization for each hour of work carried out by this group.
Members Select Click the list to choose how you want to define the members of this group. You can choose Standard Members or Using Expression. The choice you make determines the information required.
If you select Standard Members... Add the users and groups that you want. You can add existing participant groups as members. You can also add users and groups previously defined in the Process Admin Console.

When adding users and groups, type in part of the name of the account that you want and IBM BPM displays all users or groups that match.

If you select Using Expression... First establish whether you want to select members based on a match with any or all rules that you define. Then use the sentence editor to establish the rule or rules that you want. See Defining Participant Group rules to learn how to define rules. If no users match the expression, the resulting participant group is empty.

  4. Click Save in the main toolbar.

You must restart the server for Process Designer to recognize any new WebSphere Application Server Virtual Member Manager (VMM) User repository security groups or LDAP User repository security groups. After you restart the server, click Add Group to see the new groups.
