Defining KPI contexts

A KPI context is a container for key performance indicators (KPIs) and their associated triggers and events.

To define a KPI context:

Procedure

  1. Click the KPI Model tab of the editor, right-click the monitor details model at the top of the model tree, and click New > KPI Context.

  2. In the Create New KPI Context window, type a name and click OK. The name is limited to 256 characters. As you type the name, a default ID is created for you, although you can change it if you prefer. This ID is required, and must be unique within the monitor model. The ID must be an XML NCName (non-colonized name), which means that it must start with a letter or underscore, and can only contain letters, digits, underscores, hyphens, and periods.

The KPI context is added to the model tree, and the form editor opens so that you can define the KPI context.

  3. To change the ID, click Edit on the ID field. The ID must be an XML NCName (non-colonized name), which means that it must start with a letter or underscore, and can only contain letters, digits, underscores, hyphens, and periods.

  4. Optional: Type a new name in the Name field.

  5. Optional: Type a description in the Description field. The description is used only in the Monitor Model editor and is not displayed anywhere in Business Monitor. The character set is unrestricted.
  6. Right-click the KPI context and select New. A list of elements that you can add to this KPI context is displayed. When you select one of these items, a Create window is displayed. Specify a name and click OK to create a new element. The following actions occur:

    • The element and its icon are added to the model tree under the KPI context node.

    • An editor opens for the new element so that you can define it.

What to do next

You can add KPIs, inbound events, triggers, outbound events, and event groups to this KPI context.

To filter the elements that are visible in the model tree, right-click a node and click Filter. Select any elements that you do not want displayed.
