Enabling or disabling administrative security

If you chose to install the test environment when installed IBM Integration Designer, then administrative security is enabled by default for all test environment servers that were created as a result of the installation. You can easily disable administrative security for a server or enable it again using the server administrative console, but you must ensure that your changes to the administrative security settings of the server in the administrative console are also specified in the corresponding IBM Integration Designer server configuration.

In this topic, the instructions are divided into three main steps:

  1. Enabling or disabling administrative security in the server administrative console.
  2. Updating the IBM Integration Designer server configuration in the current workspace and in all other existing and future workspaces.
  3. Updating the IBM Integration Designer server configuration in only the current workspace.

If you want to enable or disable administrative security, complete the first step. You must also complete either the second step or the third step.

Important: Application security is required by IBM BPM and must not be turned off in the administrative console.

To enable or disable administrative security:

Procedure

  1. Complete the following steps to enable or disable administrative security in the server administrative console:

    1. In the Servers view, locate the server for which you want to enable or disable administrative security.

    2. If the server is not yet running, right-click your server in the Servers view and select Start.

    3. When the server status changes to Started, right-click the server and select Administration > Run administrative console. The administrative console opens.

    4. In the User ID and Password fields, type your user ID and password. (The default user ID and password is admin unless you changed the default user ID and password when installed IBM Integration Designer using IBM Installation Manager.)

    5. Click the Log In button.

    6. In the left frame, expand Security and select Secure administration, applications, and infrastructure. The Secure Administration, Applications, and Infrastructure page opens.
    7. Depending on whether you want to enable or disable administrative security, either select or clear the Enable administrative security check box.

    8. Click Apply and then click the Save link in the Messages area at the top of the page.

    9. At the top of the administrative console, click Logout and then close the administrative console window.

    10. In the Servers view, right-click your server and select Stop.

  2. If you want to update an IBM Integration Designer server configuration to reflect whether administrative security is enabled or disabled in the server administrative console, and you want to update the server configuration in both your current workspace and in all other existing and future workspaces (recommended), then complete the following steps:

    1. From the Window menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window opens.

    2. In the left frame, expand Server and select Security. The Security page opens.
    3. Ensure that the Enable workbench-scoped configuration check box is selected.
    4. Beside the server for which you enabled or disabled administrative security in the administrative console, either select or clear the Security is enabled on this server check box.

    5. Click OK to close the Preferences window. When you next start the server in the Servers view, your changes will take effect.

  3. If you want to update an IBM Integration Designer server configuration to reflect whether administrative security is enabled or disabled in the server administrative console, but you only want to update the server configuration in your current workspace and not in all other existing and future workspaces, then complete the following steps:

    1. From the Window menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window opens.

    2. In the left frame, expand Server and select Security. The Security page opens.
    3. Clear the Enable workbench-scoped configuration check box.

    4. Click OK to close the Preferences window.

    5. In the Servers view, double-click the server for which you enabled or disabled administrative security in the administrative console. The server configuration editor opens.
    6. Expand the Servers section.
    7. Depending on whether you enabled or disabled administrative security for the server in the administrative console, either select or clear the Security is enabled on this server check box.
    8. Press Ctrl-S to save your changes and then close the server configuration editor. When you next start the server in the Servers view, your changes will be in effect.
Information about the pros and cons of using a workbench-scoped security configuration is found in the topic "Enabling or disabling workbench-scoped security configuration."
