Changing the configuration topology

You can change the IBM BPM configuration topology by moving components from one topology to another topology that better addresses the processing requirements of your business.

Through tuning exercises, an administrator may determine that the current IBM BPM configuration topology needs to be changed in order to meet performance requirements.

This may mean moving the components of a single cluster topology to a multi-clustered topology (remote messaging and support for example) to better manage the potential system bottlenecks.

One reason for changing your configuration topology might be to more evenly distribute processing load.

For example, if you have installed everything on a single cluster and you now want to have a separate cluster for your support applications to reduce the load on your application cluster, you could move some of the components currently on the application cluster to the support cluster. Another reason for changing the configuration might be that you do not need high availability for the applications on the support cluster.

Remember, a topology represents the configuration of the functional components in your environment.

To move from one topology to another, you must move the individual components that make up the IBM BPM configuration from its current topology, to a new topology.

You can change the IBM BPM configuration from a command line, using wsadmin.

Before changing a configuration topology, stop processing any events and make sure there are no messages in queues and in the database.
