Upgrading configurations

You can upgrade a configuration of IBM BPM (for example, from IBM BPM Express to IBM BPM Standard) by using IBM Installation Manager to install the new configuration over a previously installed configuration in the same package group.

The configuration you want to upgrade must have been installed using Installation Manager. Before you perform the upgrade, shut down any servers or network deployment environments.

The supported product upgrade paths are:

There are no upgrade paths to or from the IBM BPM Advanced - Process Server configuration.

When you perform a configuration upgrade, any existing IBM BPM profiles are left unchanged.

CAUTION:

Upgrading from V8.0.1 of a configuration to a previous version of an upgraded configuration is not recommended.

For example, if you are using IBM BPM Express, V8.0.1, and you want to upgrade to IBM BPM Standard, you should upgrade to V8.0.1 of IBM BPM Standard, and not to a previous version. Upgrading to a previous version can cause issues with your profiles and if there are interim fixes, those interim fixes must first be removed or you encounter errors.


Procedure

  1. Start the Installation Manager.

  2. Click File > Preferences > Repositories and browse to the repository that contains the new configuration package. Click Add Repository.

  3. From the Installation Manager Welcome page, click Install.

  4. On the Install Packages page, select the configuration that you want to install.

  5. Click Next to continue.

  6. On the Licenses page, read the license agreement. If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and click Next.

  7. On the Install Location page, select the package group that contains the configuration which you want to upgrade.

  8. On the Summary page, review your choices before installing the package.

    To change the choices made on previous pages, click Back and make your changes. When satisfied with your installation choices, click Install to install the package. A progress indicator shows the percentage of the installation completed.

  9. When the installation process is complete, a message confirms the success of the process.

        View Log File

      Close the Installation Log window to continue.

    2. Select Profile Management Tool to launch pmt.sh when you finish, or select None to complete the installation.

    3. Click Finish to close the Installation Manager.
